FLAK HAPPY

Your mates. One B-17. Everything's on fire.

FLAK HAPPY is a co-op WW2 bomber roguelite for 1–5 players. You and your mates crew a single B-17 Flying Fortress, flying missions together, fighting off enemy fighters, and desperately trying to keep the thing in one piece.

You can walk around the fuselage, climb into the gun turrets, move between compartments, and get hands-on with the work of keeping the aircraft flying.

When things start going wrong, everyone has a job to do (Usually several...).

The job

Hit the target. Keep the plane flying. Get everyone home.

  • Fly it. Take the controls yourself, or let the AI handle the flying while you get on with something else.
  • Bomb it. Line up the target with the bombsight, open the bomb bay doors, and drop your payload.
  • Shoot it. Jump into the nose, top, ball, waist or tail guns and keep enemy fighters off your back.
  • Navigate it. Plot your course at the chart table. Lose the radio, and you'll have to work things out the old-fashioned way.

Something's gone wrong. Get on it.

Flak doesn't just chip away at a health bar. It gives you problems to deal with, usually at the worst possible moment.

  • An engine catches fire. Or a wing does, and now the whole aircraft is fighting you.
  • A gun jams just as enemy fighters close in.
  • The radio goes dead, the oxygen line fails, or the hydraulics give out and the bomb bay doors won't budge.
  • A cable gets cut. Someone needs to find the break and repair it with a hammer, while the whole sky is trying to kill you.
  • Someone's bleeding in the waist. Grab the medkit and get over there.

These aren't problems you can fix from a menu. You have to get to the right part of the aircraft and deal with them yourself.

And while you're busy putting out a fire, somebody else is clearing a jammed gun, trying to get the radio working, or keeping a wounded crewmate alive.

This is where the intercom earns its keep.

Get paid. Spend it. Do it all again.

Every sortie is a chance to earn cash. Shoot down fighters, repair the aircraft, treat the wounded, land your bombs, and bring the crew home alive.

  • Earn your keep. Get paid for kills, repairs, healing, successful bombing runs, and bringing the crew home.
  • Spend your money. Everyone has their own wallet. Head to the quartermaster for radio call-ins, or put money towards repairs in the hangar.
  • Watch your fire. Friendly fire costs you money. Maybe check who's in that turret before you start shooting.
  • Kit out your bomber. Between sorties, pick from a pool of 15 aircraft mods to shape your run.
  • Know when you're beaten. Lose the aircraft, and the run is over.

Every run is a little different. Make the most of what you've got, keep the crew alive, and try to make it back for one more mission.

What's in the game

  • 1–5 player online co-op. Fly with a full crew or go solo, with AI filling any empty seats.
  • A fully walkable B-17. Move around the aircraft as it flies, take up positions, and brace yourself when things get rough.
  • Hands-on damage control. Fires, breaches, severed cables, jammed guns, and wounded crew all need attention.
  • A sky full of trouble. Take on enemy fighters, flak, and bombers. If things become truly hopeless, you can always bail out.
  • Roguelite progression. Build your career, choose aircraft mods, make hangar repairs, and practise your aim at the gunnery range.
  • Proximity voice and an intercom. Talk to whoever's nearby, coordinate with the crew, and try not to panic when the intercom gets shot out.

Playing with friends

Getting a crew together is simple. Online co-op uses room codes, so there's no need to mess around with port forwarding or share your IP address.

Hosting a game

  1. From the main menu, click HOST GAME. Set a password if you want to keep your room private.
  1. Launch the game. Once you're in the hangar, you'll find your room code at the top of the screen. It's automatically copied to your clipboard, too.
  1. Send the code to your mates and get the crew together.

Joining a game

  1. From the main menu, click JOIN.
  1. Enter the host's room code in the ROOM CODE box. Don't worry about capital letters — room codes aren't case-sensitive.
  1. Enter the password if the host set one, then join the game.

Crew up

Each room supports up to 5 players. If there aren't enough humans to fill the crew, AI crew members (Up to 2) will take the remaining seats.

Now get in the aircraft and try to bring it home in one piece!
